What's Happening This Week in Space: June 11th, 2018
This Week in Space, Cosmic Chicago

Summer is here and it's the perfect time for pulling out a telescope to view the stars and planets. Don't have a telescope of your own? No problem!

This week's cosmic happenings take us to public observing sessions around the city and suburbs, where you can meet both amateur and professional astronomers ready to share the view.

Dearborn Observatory Public Observing, Northwestern University, Friday, June 15, 2018, 10-11 p.m.

Every Friday the Dearborn Observatory on Northwestern University's campus hosts a public observation session and observatory tours. Summer hours for walk in guests are popular so arrive as close to the start time as possible to be able to look through the telescope. You can view more information about the Dearborn Observatory here.

'Scopes in the City, Penrose Brewing Company, Geneva, Saturday, June 16, 2018, 12:00-2:00 p.m.

The Adler's, 'Scopes in the City, program brings out Adler astronomers and staff into the community where they host telescope star parties. You can view more information regarding this specific event here

Yerkes Observatory University of Chicago Public Viewing, Williams Bay, WI, June 16-17, 2018, 9:15 p.m.

The University of Chicago opens the Observatory up for public observing on scheduled nights throughout the year. Guests can view through the 24 inch reflector or the 40 inch refractor. Reservations must be made ahead of time, and the Observatory will soon close to the public so this summer's viewing sessions are the last chance to visit. You can see more about Yerkes, the public tours offered, and observing details here.

Adler Summer Film Fest, Adler Planetarium, Now- September 3, 2018

Adler Planetarium will show a special selection of planetarium shows from around the world throughout the summer months, opening up a whole new world of space science and exploration to Chicagoans. Visit the Adler website for dates, times, and prices.
