I guess it's pretty obvious that I'm not in Chicago this weekend.
I was going to headline this piece, "I Flew To Los Angeles To Get A Haircut." I figured that would be a bit misleading, but the fact is, I've been working hard at so many different things back on the lakeshore that this first thing I did when I arrived on Thursday was to get the haircut I didn't have time for at home.
The real reason I'm out on the left coast -- and staying in Marina del Rey -- is to attend the excellent Good Food Festival and Conference being staged this weekend by my friends at FamilyFarmed.org, the nation's leading advocacy organization for family farmers and sustainable agriculture.
I did have Friday morning free, though, and I took my camera on the mile walk down to Venice Beach, a place that is at the heart of Southern California's surfing culture. Here's a sampling. And, with heartfelt hopes for our fellow Americans hit so hard east, my wishes that your waters are pacific.
