Cooking is a sport. There are numerous cooking competitions throughout the country and on television. The newer sport is cocktail competitions, especially when paired with food.
Chicago q, World Food Championships, Kenmore Executive Chef Kari Karch, and Yummie Nation hosted the event. Chicago q chef owner, Lee Ann Whippen is a nationally known food champion and television personality in her own right.
The winner will get their signature cocktail placed on Chicago q's menu, bragging rights, and a ticket to the World Food Championships in Las Vegas.
The competing mixologists were some of the best in Chicago:
- Freelance bartender, Andre Cunningham
- Alexander Barardi from Cocello
- Adolfo Calderon from Public House and Bull and Bear
- Kristina Magro from Fulton Market Kitchen
- Calvin Marty from Luxbar
- Kevin Lowe from J. Rocco Italian Table and Bar
All cocktails had to include Larceny Bourbon, a sponsor of the event.
There were two events, a main course and dessert. The contestants had to create cocktails to pair with Chef Whippen's barbecue and desserts.
The barbecue samples and the desserts were terrific. The chocolate mousse with pretzel crust was awesome.
Freelance bartender Andre Cunningham won both events.
