In May, farmers markets open all over the city of Chicago. Every Thursday there is a farmers' market in Daley Plaza from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. This week's market coincided with the Silk Road to Asia Festival, Celebrating Asian Heritage Month in Chicago. Thursday was a celebration of the Thai culture.
The market had plenty of fresh produce, flowers, herbs, honey, baked goods, and other products for sale. Artisans were selling jewelry, custom made soaps and lotions, clothing, and other products and wares. Food vendors were plentiful to satisfy the hunger of the lunch time crowd. One of my favorite restaurants, Simply Thalia had a booth selling some of their fantastic meals.
The City of Chicago website has the schedule for downtown and neighborhood markets listed. Do not forget to check out the various neighborhood evening markets that are very popular.
Beware that farmers' markets can be more expensive than grocery stores. Shop wisely.
