A team celebration dinner after a big win is pretty-much a given. But, when said game ends after 9 on a weeknight, I figure we're resigned to pizza or wings. I certainly wouldn't expect local grass-fed beef, USA-raised GMO-free pork, Bell & Evans chicken, or locally made mozarella. Then again, I had never been to Heroes West Sports Grill.
Yes, you read that correctly...I'm talking about a sports bar.
Everything you'd expect is there: countless tvs, cold beer, sports memorabilia, game tables, wings, and burgers.
Oh, and waffle fries!
But...unlike your local wing joint, this one happens to have an appreciation for sustainability and quality.
It's not often you can find grass-fed beef at a sports bar. So, if it's a burger you want...try The "Local."
We start with the finest cuts of grass fed, all natural beef from Hauert Farms in Elwood to make a ⅓ lb patty, place it on a Milano bun made right here in Joliet and top it with mozzarella cheese from Mancuso Cheese, also located in Joliet.
Definitely what I wanted to order, but a big ole' burger at 10pm wasn't the best option for me...went a little lighter with their perfectly grilled (not at all mushy) veggie sandwich (and waffle fries of course!).
If you have your heart set on wings (fried or grilled...sauce or rub), a wrap, or salad you have plenty of choices. But, don't overlook the Waygu, bison, or antibiotic-free/organic chicken options.
Not only can you eat well at Heroes West, you can also "do good"...every Wednesday is "Warrior Wednesday." Dine-in (lunch or dinner) for their jumbo wings and 10 cents of every wing purchased is donated to the Fisher House Foundation: helping our military and their families.
What's a sports bar without beer? Better than their huge selection of domestic, craft, and import beers, is their HUGE selection of whiskey and local spirits...even a few from Plainfield's Tailwinds.
(side note, Heroes, thanks for the 5oz beer options, always bugs me when bars/restaurants don't offer it)
Now that warmer weather is (maybe?) closer, their outdoor patio may soon be available. What about the name, Heroes West...is there a Heroes East? Not yet...that's a small business owner's ambition of bigger plans!
It's not everyday that you find a sports bar that has multiple (or any) sustainable options. Thanks, Heroes for taking bar food to a new level...and for making our boys feel like "heroes" for a moment.
