Day 73: A real bakery!

Yesterday I spent the afternoon shopping in Morris with my mom.  If you've been following my challenge, you already know that Morris is one of my favorite small towns and has four of my favorite small businesses: Lola's, Gigi's, Vintage, and Blackbird's Barkery. Once again, they didn't disappoint. I found a clock, a cabinet, a pair of shorts, and tasty treats for my pup!

But, I also found two more small gems: the Morris Bakery and Ebbey's Sports Bar (you'll hear about Ebbey's tomorrow). Finally, though, a REAL bakery!

If they only sell cupcakes (I just don't understand the cupcake craze) or frosted cookies, it is not a true bakery. Fresh baked bread is the key, and Morris Bakery does it right!

We got there a little late in the day, so the selection was a little light. Fortunately there were still a couple loaves of their incredible cinnamon bread left along with pillowy soft potato rolls. Their coffee cakes were almost as long as my arm (cheese or apple yesterday), and looked amazing. I passed this time, but my mom generously shared a bit of hers, it was just as incredible as it looked.

Baking is definitely in their blood. Bob and Darcy Elleson have owned the bakery since 1986, but it's been family run since 1973. The baking gene dates back further: this is the great-grandfather's bakery in Iowa over 100 years ago!
