Earlier this month representatives from I-GO car sharing started making rounds to community meetings in the 6th ward to announce that they were expanding their service to the 6th Ward. The first location will be at 8001 S King Drive. The location is owned by Jiffy Cab Co and is also the home of the Alderman Roderick Sawyer's 6th ward service office. The location was chosen because of its access to public transportation lines of the #79 (79th street) and #3(King Drive) bus lines as well as the cab stand is open 24 hours. Previously the nearest I-GO location was at 59th street on the campus of University of Chicago.
So what is I-GO? I-GO is a car sharing service. I-GO provides members with the convenience of using a car without the hassles and expenses of owning one. Members have 24-hour access to a fleet of I-GO vehicles in reserved parking spaces all over Chicago and in four suburbs. They cover the gas, premium insurance, vehicle maintenance, and 24/7/365 assistance.
Unlike carpooling, carsharing gives you sole control over the car during your reservation. Unlike car rental, you pick up and drop off your car from a location in your neighborhood. You can reserve a vehicle for an hour or as long as you need it (up to three days), but the best and most cost-effective trips are those that are short in time and distance.
The expansion to Chatham came as a result of conversations, on the behalf of Jiffy Cab Co., attorney G.Scott McCarthy had with the I-Go team. Attorney McCarthy suggested that I-GO meet with Alderman Roderick Sawyer to discuss an expanded roll out throughout the 6th ward.
I-GO representatives will be at the following community meetings on the flyer below and are offering a discounted membership as well.
