Peace in the Park After Dark started two year as a statement to the community that Cole Park was safe after the shooting of Officer Thomas Wortham IV. So a group of 100 young people along with 6th District Police Commander Eric Carter, Wisconsin National Guardsman and a host of volunteers spent the night in Cole Park.
This year 100 young men and women came out to spend the night in Cole Park. The late Honorable Eugene Pincham said "Our young people can't be what they can't see". Friday evening they had a chance to see what they can become in life. The campers were greeted by Alderman Roderick T. Sawyer, 6th District Police Commander Eric Carter, and Mr and Mrs. Thomas Wortham. Where was Superintendent Garry McCarthy, he was at Cole Park. The Superintendent addressed the campers assuring them that he was going to decrease the violence and committed to participating in this event in the future.
