The Real Woman Behind Real Men Cook

Yvette Moyo Gillard
Coming up this Sunday, June 17, 2012, the 23rd annual Real Men Cook event will take place at the the new Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center located at 1250 W 119th street on the city's far Southside. Grandfathers, fathers, sons and grandsons will prepare their best dishes to present to the public for charity.

The event has brought out fraternities, ministers and some noted politicians. Current Alderman Roderick Sawyer, Former Mayor Eugene Sawyer, Former State of Illinois Senate President Emil Jones and even then State Senator- now U.S. President Barack Obama are among the thousands of men who have rolled up their sleeves and donned a Real Men Cook® bandana, apron or chef’s hat to make a difference and change the way Father’s Day is celebrated for the benefit of others. As a result, over $1 million in ticket sales proceeds and donations have been generated by Real Men Cook® to nonprofit partners and organizations that serve families and communities.

One of the driving forces behind this event is its founder and Park Manor native and resident Yvette Moyo-Gillard. Mrs. Gillard leads Real Men Charities and is a social entrepreneur, brand strategist, family health and fitness enthusiast and a leader in the fatherhood movement. She is credited with changing the way Father’s Day is celebrated as chief marketing officer and owner of the Real Men Cook® brand for over 20 years. Her efforts have landed Real Men Cook on various Food Network programs including Paula Deen and Emeri Live!and in USA Today, TIME magazine and on major news networks and syndicated radio with her good men messages inspiring millions.

Real Men Cook events don't end on Father's Day, the group works with non-profit partners to promote healthy eating as well as positive role models for the youth. Mrs. Gillard is dedicated to the message of Real Men that she has expanded the brand to include Real Women. She has released a new cookbook "Real Women Cook" that promotes healthy living.
