While the community grabbles with social issues, a main thorofare is becoming quite busy again. The 87th street cooridor going west has seen a number of new businesses now the development is coming east.
Starting at 87th State Street, the Shell gas station is in the process of a $1.0 millon upgrade with new pumps and the addition of a convenience store and take out restaurant. Continuing east the shuttered Shelter lounge and Deli (607 E 87th) has a new owner and new name Licorice Lounge. The new owner plans to upgrade the property. The next development was discussed this past Monday at the Chatham Avalon Park Community Council (CAPCC) meeting. Quality Car Wash (644 E 87th)next to the Chatham Ridge mall is getting an upgrade with the addition of Enterprise Rent A Car which will relocate from the Chatham Ridge mall to the car wash location.
Finally, the residents of Chatham will not have to worry about anything being EZ or EZ Pawn as the former Chatham Pancake House (700 E 87th) will be torn down by the new owner. The new owner Crown Properties is actively marketing the property to several national restaurant chains.
The final piece is Garrett Popcorn Shop that has been going non stop since their opening. The store is so busy that they are adding a drive-thru window.
Now maybe I-GO and Zip Car can find their way past Hyde Park. What else is needed on 87th?
Note: The Chatham Avalon Park Community Council (CAPCC) will have a community hearing on the Enterprise Rent A Car relocation to Quality Car Wash in the near future.
