Recently Bobby Rush, Congressman from the 1st District of Illinois has been under the gun for his attendance. He has missed a large number of votes on key issues and this has prompted a number of political hacks to attempt to run against him. Despite, his voting record and recent illness Congressman Rush sailed through the primary and is expected to trounce his Republican opponent in the largely Democratic 1st Congressional District.
Mr. Rush is also known for his past for reinventig himself from a membrt of what some called a radical group the Black Panther Party to a highly regarded politician. He served several terms as the 2nd ward Alderman of the City of Chicago.
Mr. Rush was escorted off the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives today for dawning a hoody in tribute of slain teen Trayvon Martin. Some felt it was disrepspectful while others applauded him for his courage. Some had started to call him a "sellout" but based on his actions today, one wonders did the Panther Party persona go away.
