Awesome, Youthful Makeup Tips for Baby Boomers & Girls of All Ages From a Former Top Plus Size Designer, Model, Hair & Makeup Artist, Speaker and Author

Laura Dion Jones Casey 4

I don't know about you, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve been blessed with a great complexion. While my girlfriends and I were in our teens, a lot were having acne issues.I was lucky if I had one zit a month – and it was always around “that time.”

From my experience, one of the things that I believe contributes to a healthy complexion is genetics. The rest is up to us. How we treat ourselves, the things we eat, and our overall lifestyle speak volumes about the condition of the skin we’re in.

Having lost 150 pounds and keeping 130 of it off into my 13th year, I know from what I speak when I tell you my skin has been stretched out to 300-plus pounds three times in my life. It’s a wonder that I’m not more saggy, baggy and wrinkled. Of course, a nip here and tuck there have contributed to the way I look now, but believe me, all it takes is a little bit of time, effort and desire to look like Sophia Loren even when your finances are not quite what hers are.

Because of my lifelong expert beauty background, I’m always on the lookout for the finest potions, lotions and cosmetics at the best prices.

We made the following three minute, short, fast video that details my entire beauty routine from cleansing my face to the finished product - and we’ve also included my “secret tip” for nighttime wrinkle worries. Take a look.

 Step 1

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes (Costco)

I use these nifty little cleansing towelettes before bedtime, because I love the way they swipe off your makeup and the grime of the day, leaving your skin feeling soft and hydrated. You still need to use a night cream so before bed, I apply R&F 3 Redefine PM cream on my clean face.

Step 2

RODAN + FIELDS 1 REDEFINE Daily Cleansing Mask

I moisten my hands just a teeny bit and massage this creamy, kaolin clay-based cleansing mask around my face paying special attention to my crow’s feet, if you will, and lip lines. It dries in 2 minutes, flat, and gently exfoliates without disrupting your skin’s delicate moisture barrier.

Remove with wet complexion sponge.

Step 3

RODAN + FIELDS 2 REDEFINE Pore Minimizing Toner

Apply to cleansed face with R + F 2” X 2”, non-cotton gauze. The pore-clarifying ingredients minimize the appearance of enlarged pores. Fast-acting, alcohol-free. Like wearing “$PANX” for your face.

Step 4

I on Youth Roll-On Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum

I absolutely love this stuff. Irene Michaels, former model and lifestyle correspondent, is the founder of this company and she’s like, 71 years old. If I could look like her, I’d drink a vat of it daily! Trust me.

I will tell you this howevs - every time I use this product in combination with my 4-step Rodan & Fields Redefine Regimen - the compliments on my complexion just don’t stop!

Take a peek at Irene’s website for more info:

Step 5

Triple Defense Treatment - Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Terrific defense moisturizing treatment for day with a broad spectrum SPF 30 that shields your complexion from the harsh rays of the sun. Stops photoaging, if you get my drift. And, yes, it’s a slightly tinted moisturizer giving your skin an incredible youthful glow.

You can get more info from your R&F representative and their website.

Step 6 (Part 1)

Jane Iredale Eye Makeup

Three basic shades are all you really need! Really.

One of the few eye makeup products that don’t irritate my eyes.

Step 6 (Part 2)

Use a sponge applicator, brush, or your finger to apply eye shadow.

What could be easier.

Step 7

Blend with Lucky Rabbit’s Foot (sorry Evie) Make-up Blender.

Many years ago, when I first began working as a hair and makeup artist on Chicago’s Gold Coast as an assistant to the late, but totally great David Warner, within our Salon, was a boutique called L’Imprevu - where we carried Marilyn Miglin’s then brand new makeup line.

A woman came into the boutique while I was minding the store for a bit, so I had the pleasure of waiting on her. She smiled as I went on and on and on about how fabulous Miglin’s makeup line was. Lo and behold, the customer was none other than Marilyn, herself! She gave me this lucky rabbit’s foot makeup blender as a little gift. I still use it to this day. If this rabbit’s foot could talk . . .

Step 8

Bren New York Eyebrow Powder

I hunted high and low for an eyebrow powder to enhance the auburn-ish color of my permanent brows. This was it.

Apply with a delicate, slanted eyebrow brush.

Step 9

Christian Dior Paris Eyeliner Pencil & Smudger in Precious Green.

Terrific, soft pencil that doesn’t “drag” your eyelid skin and has a nifty little smudger on the other end - for that smoky eye effect.

Step 10

NARS Creme Blush Stick in Palm Beach (what else!)

Apply a little at a time using your fingertips - not directly from the stick itself.

Fingertip application gives you better control and you’ll avoid that “Kewpie Doll” look.

Step 11

Re-blend all with Lucky Rabbit’s Foot Makeup Blender.

Step 12

DIORSHOW ICONIC Waterproof Mascara

All my Cosmetic Gurus from Saks to Sephora rave about this product. I love waterproof mascara because my eyes water a lot, plus I’m a tad bit emotional, so . . . you get the drift. Hate “Racoon Eyes.” I have very sparse, short, skinny lashes, so I need all the plumping up I can get.

See the next two products for just that very reason . . .

Step 13

ALMAY One Coat Thickening, Waterproof Mascara

On those particularly high eye-sensitive days, I’ll use a few coats of this product alone but sometimes I layer the DIORSHOW ICONIC Mascara with this one for a fuller look.

Use correcting Q-tip to erase mistakes. You do have those nifty little Q-tips that have a point at one end, don’t you? If not, race on over to your nearest drugstore and pick some up.

Step 14

Mary Kay MoodStruck 3D Fiber Lashes by Younique

This product’s a boon for lush, seductive nighttime lashes. The fibers are made from green tea and they don’t irritate your eyes like the old-style fiber lash plumper’s did.

The kit comes with a tube of “Transplanting gel,” and one of Natural Fibers. Complete one eye at a time

* When the night’s through, take it all off with Mary Kay’s extraordinary Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover. Every cosmetic line has at least one super-sensational product you can always rely on – this is IT for MK.

Step 15

My favorite color in this line is Berry. Sensational staying power. No “feathering.” You lip liner devotees know exactly what I mean.

Step 16

ARBONNE Glossed Over Lip Gloss

The color I use is Calla. Gorgeous combo with the lip liner above. Soft. Shimmery. Not too - you know - “too” . . .

* The last step in my total beauty routine is Rodan & Fields 4 (3)

Redefine Overnight Restorative Cream. (Mentioned above)

I love this ultra-hydrating, replenishing, moisturizing cream. The way it slides on is very sensual and I just know it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to be doing.

When I wake up, my skin is visibly firmer - not quite like a baby’s butt, but almost.

“Decide today how you want to look today and tomorrow.” And do it - ALL!! There really are no shortcuts to sensational beauty. You can’t look like Liz Taylor without doing anything to enhance your natural beauty.

And the older we girls get, the more we have to do to maintain our “youthful appearance.” Don’t let anyone tell you different.

Looking great at any age takes a bit more than just a few measly little products.

Just sayin’.
