Saturday Night my sister was awesome and took me to go see Florida Georgia Line (FGL) and Jason Aldean at the World (First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre). Overall it was a great night but I’d like to share the good, the bad and the ugly with you.
We didn’t get there early enough to get close lawn seats but we could see the artists so that was good! The show started with Tyler Farr. He sings that Redneck Crazy song about the girl who cheats on him and he drives in her lawn, flashes his headlights in her windows and throws beer cans at her shadows. He also sings Whiskey in My Water.
He did okay, but lacked strong vocals and energy.
Florida Georgia Line kicks ass. It’s as simple as that! They keep the audience amped up while putting on an amazing show and looking country good while doing it. The voices are there. The energy is there. Tyler Farr could learn a thing or two from them!
Downside to the performance? If I have to come up with one it’s that they did not perform Dayum, Baby. That’s alright though- I hear they are coming back to Chicago next month. Maybe they’ll perform it then!
I have to admit, I went to the concert for FGL and I didn’t know much Jason Aldean. I guess I should say I didn’t know which songs I sing along to on the radio were his. Everyone kept telling me that he puts on an amazing show and built him up pretty high. I was a little disappointed in his energy but his vocals were on point.
The best part of his show was the set. There was a big A ramp that he came out of in the beginning and lots of pyrotechnics. I did enjoy myself during his set and was surprised to find out how many songs I knew by him. Favorite performance? Night Train. I’ve been singing it since the concert ended!
Final note? I may be getting too old for the lawn. While it can be fun and cheap, you get what you pay for. There were people peeing less than 10 feet away from me. Mix that lovely sight with the super strong smell of weed, spilled beer, falling over drunks, and hyper girls running, like seriously running everywhere, I think I’ve had enough.
I’ll give the lawn one more chance Friday night at the Miranda Lambert concert. Might be time to move to the pavilion!
