MONDAY, JULY 23

Conservatory Level 6 Shows at Second City, 1616 N. Wells, 8:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Experience the work of Second City’s talented students. (I saw Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch at Second City back when!)

The Mixer at The Playground Theater, 3209 N. Halsted, 10:00 p.m. Everyone who goes gets to play. For new and experienced improvisers. Workshop and a show.

 

TUESDAY, JULY 24

Get Out at Millennium Park, 6:30 p.m. The Oscar-winning film for “Best Original Screenplay” is shown in collaboration with the Black Harvest Film Festival. Chicago connections: Director and writer Jordan Peele performed with Second City in Chicago and with Boom Chicago in Amsterdam. Co-star Lil Rel Howery is a Chicagoan whose sitcom Rel premieres on Fox this fall. Did you see him on Conan last week? He talked about coming up in the Chicago comedy scene with Deon Cole.

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 25

The Second City’s Neighborhood Tour at Second City, 1616 N. Wells, 4:00 p.m. Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Walking tour by Margaret Hicks, Second City alum and author of Chicago Comedy: A Fairly Serious History. Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday and Saturday tours through October. Sunday morning tours through September 2.

 

THURSDAY, JULY 26

Chicago’s Best Stand-Up at Laugh Factory, 3175 N. Broadway, 8:00 p.m. Featuring Sarah Sherman (Chicago Reader’s Best Stand-Up Comic of 2016) and more TBA.

Game of Microphones at Comedy Shrine, 4034 Fox Valley Center Dr., Aurora, 8:00 p.m. A weekly stand-up challenge where the audience determines the winner.

Wasteland: A Night of Mandolin, Happiness and Others at The Annoyance Theatre, 851 W. Belmont, 8:00 p.m. This show promises to be like no other!  We've needed a post-apocalyptic bluegrass musical (with puppets) and thankfully, it is here! Directed by Richard Scruggs. Through August 23.
