The Blossom Festival with the Cleveland Orchestra
I arrived in Cuyahoga Falls after a long and exciting ride with the company. We arrived safe at the hotel after almost a 6-hour drive. It is way better and faster for us to take a bus from Chicago to Blossom than actually taking a plane. Yes, faster! The time it usually takes us to load the bus for the airport, then wait for the plane, then wait at baggage claim and reload another bus for the hotel adds up quickly and in the end, it takes more time and is much more complicated. Our buses are well equipped with outlets and Wi-Fi so we can get things done and also surf on the net and kill the time.
I utilize most of my free time to network, reach out to new Facebook friends, and make new connections. My goal is to make people discover my art form as much as possible. Art in general needs more support, so I have focused my time to educate people about Ballet. I made it my mission to continue spreading this message. Chicago is a very receptive city. Chicagoans are curious and have a great desire to learn about and improve the city’s culture. The City, with our new mayor, has grown so much and tourism is skyrocketing.
My time networking has always been very nice and easy. Most of the people I reach out to are welcoming, open, and curious about Ballet. It is fun to inform them about dance and let them discover my world through my profile. To my surprise, a majority of those people have been exposed to ballet at an early age so it just makes it fun for me to get them excited to revisit the art form. As always, with the positives there are always a few bumps. What I mean by that is that I love to communicate directly with my connections and I hate building walls. By doing this, I expose myself to everyone and every type of opinion, including haters (they are everywhere). Things they do or say can be very hurtful. It can be truly upsetting how poorly haters can react, but it won’t deviate me from my goal, the goal of spreading the word about Ballet and Art and keeping Chicago’s culture growing. :)
Our rooms are great spaces planned out very well with a half kitchen. To utilize it, most dancers go to the grocery store to get some food for the 5 days we are here. The blossom festival is in the middle of nature and there are not many restaurants around to eat at so while we are at the theatre we make sure we have stocked up in groceries. The Blossom Festival is an outdoor venue with grassy hills and picnic tables around the grounds, which make it the perfect setting for a picnic before the concert.
It is also very close to Cedar Point. If you make the trip to Blossom, you can enjoy one of the best Orchestras in the world, The Cleveland Orchestra conducted by Tito Munoz, one of the best dance companies, The Joffrey Ballet directed by Ashley Wheater, and then go to one of the best amusement parks in the US, Cedar Point, the next day. :)
