The New Joffrey Season

What an incredible start to the season.  I have been working with the company on After the Rain and the new Yuri Possokov premiere.  It's a very promising program with again, like Edwaard Liang's Age of Innocence, some intense physical challenges for me.  Yet, with Age of Innocence, I found myself in a situation of ease because the physicality of Ed's piece was so high that I got to a different place where other parts were suddenly easier.  But now with Christopher Wheeldon and Yuri this is a completely different ball game.
Here is the new 2011 ballet challenge....I see the company growing to a level of technique that surpasses a lot of other ballet companies today and really moves Joffrey to a place it's never been before.  Obviously there are phenomenal companies out there with solo technique levels at a very high level, but often the level of partnering does not match the individual strength.  This year the Joffrey is being given great challenges in terms of the work we are being asked to do and we are taking the challenge and making the change.
