Many people do not know that I am an avid gamer. I play competitive Rocket League and at times certain games may trigger anger. Unfortunately, my only working controller became a victim of such an event and I found myself at my local BestBuy looking for a new controller. However, while visiting, I decided to stop by the Samsung department and check out the plethora of devices they had on display.
Galaxy S7 and S7 edge
To start off, I took a peek at the current phones Samsung has available. However, I will be focusing on the higher end s7 series in this article. To start off with the s7 series comes in two variants, the s7 and the s7 edge. Both phones have the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU, 4GB of RAM, 12 MP camera, Quad HD display, fingerprint sensor, and heart rate sensor. The display on both phones is just amazing and easily take the number one spot hands down in terms of resolution. The text is crisp and the brightness can get really high when needed like on those bright sunny days. The CPU and RAM are powerful enough and ensure that any task you do runs efficiently and executes quickly. However, one thing to notice about this phone is that the camera is only 12 MP.
This may seem like a downgrade but do not be tricked into thinking the camera is garbage. Samsung has implemented a dual pixel technology into its cameras which compensates for the downgrade in camera resolution and allows amazing performance in low-light situations. In short, the camera is an absolute killer and easily competes with those found on apples iPhone 7. However, the phones are not cheap and can range anywhere from $400-$700 depending on where they are purchased from. It's true what they say: you get what you pay for.
Gear VR and Gear 360 cam
Already have a Samsung phone? Samsung has a lot of great accessories to complete the experience! There is the virtual reality headset which allows you to immerse yourself in the world of Virtual Reality. You may also play 360-degree games and even look up 360-degree videos on YouTube. The gear 360 camera allows you to take 360 video and pictures of your surroundings. The images may later be uploaded to social media networks such as Facebook to impress your friends or just showcase an "out of the ordinary" picture of where you are at.
Accessories: Gear S3 and a wireless charger
Moving on to wearables Samsung has introduced the Gear S3, a water-resistant smart watch. Priced at around $300 the wearable is not the cheapest smart watch out there. However, it comes loaded with a ton of features such as GPS, heart rate sensor, altimeter, and even 4G connectivity on the cellular model. The watch can be used as an everyday classic watch or may even be used as a
sports band to keep track of any fitness activities you do.
Next to the wearable section was the more phone focused accessories such as the clear view cases and wireless chargers. The new wireless chargers are a huge improvement over last years model. the new chargers are almost two times faster than last years and come in either black or white.
Galaxy tab A 10.1
With the release of the new android 7.0 software update, code named nougat, Samsung's line-up of tablets have been refreshed with a plethora of new options. The Galaxy tab A is an example of such a tablet that benefits largely from this new update. The huge screen real estate makes sure you get the most out of your viewing experience with no compromises added. The powerful on board graphics chips can handle anything you throw at them and I had no issues when gaming on them.
Notebook 9 pro (15.6in variant)
To rival the MacBook Pro, Samsung has released the notebook 9, a small but very powerful windows laptop. Although the laptop was not on display when I went there I can testify this computer is one heck of a power house thanks to my buddy in Minnesota who let me use it while on break. There is only one word to describe this piece of hardware and that word is amazing. The display was crisp and the colors were very vibrant thanks to Samsung's HDR technology. It packs a strong core i7 processor and 8GBs of ram which is code for "Can handle anything you throw at it".
Overall, Samsung has a very strong lineup for the coming year and with the new releases expected in early April that lineup will only get better. The devices themselves are very reliable and they are a company I have shopping with for years now. I highly recommend their products as they are very powerful, reliable, and fairly inexpensive compared to the products of other top companies. Will 2017 be the year we finally see border-less front screen phones? How about 4K displays on a phone? Who knows!
