While cold weather delights coffee or tea drinkers, many are more in the mood for hot chocolate. If you get it while you are out, get ready for lots of sugar, chocolate syrup or cheap ingredients. If you're at home and want to make a quick, healthy drink (also a great substitute when you are craving a dessert after dinner), take 5 minutes to make this delectable treat. Recipe makes 2 servings.
Healthy Hot Chocolate
2 cups milk (whole, skim, rice, soy or hemp)
2 heaping tbs. 70% dark chocolate cocoa powder
2 tsp. organic sugar
Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium until steaming but not boiling. Add cocoa powder and sugar and whisk to combine ingredients. Whisk until well blended. Pour into mugs!
Healthy Cinnamon Hot Chocolate: Simply add 1/2 tsp. cinnamon to the recipe.
Healthy Mint Hot Chocolate: Simply add 1/4 tsp. peppermint extract to the recipe.
