CHICAGO: Tickets are going fast for Chicago’s hottest musical play, Pride & Joy: The Marvin Gaye Musical, coming to the Chicago Theater June 19th through June 23rd. Pride & Joy is a show-stopping performance that tells the story of Grammy Award winning singer-producer Marvin Gaye and his passionate relationship with his first wife Anna Gordy Gaye, the sister of Motown Founder Berry Gordy.
Pride & Joy creates an unforgettable experience of Marvin Gaye’s most recognized music, performed onstage from his teenage years to adulthood, with hit songs like What’s Going On, Got To Give It Up, Mercy Mercy Me and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
Along with a singing and dance ensemble that portrays Motown legends Smokey Robinson, Jackie Wilson, Anna Gordy Gaye, Tammi Terrell, Berry Gordy, Marvin Gaye III and the singing group The Marvelettes, Pride & Joy features 28 of Marvin Gaye’s most memorable songs from the Motown catalogue.
Pride & Joy is a collaboration of anecdotes from the diaries of Anna Gordy Gaye and her son Marvin Gaye III. Their life stories share an intimate account of how Marvin Gaye first met Anna, and their family struggles and triumphs during a tumultuous love relationship. The stage is set during the ’50’s and ’60’s with iconic performances of the ’80’s where both Marvin and Anna’s relationship helped shaped the rising success of Motown Records.
Pride & Joy: The Marvin Gaye Musical is presented by MGIII Global Licensing, Inc and New Day Entertainment. The musical play is touring across the United States and has performed to sell-out audiences in Detroit, Atlanta, Washington D.C. and Baltimore. Pride & Joy will be in Chicago next week for 7 performances at the historic Chicago Theater Wednesday June 19th through Sunday June 23rd.
