Many tuned in to the Ultimate Fighter premiere for the new best rivalry in sports (Rousey/Tate), but got much more out of the TUF season 18 premiere on Fox Sports 1.
This season of TUF had a different feel to it. Not only did the UFC show switch from Spike to Fox Sports 1, but it's the first season featuring female fighters and coaches.
135 lb women's fighter, Jessamyn Duke impressed both Ronda Rousey and Dana White early in episode 1 by winning with a triangle choke.
It was impossible not to feel for both 135 lb Men's fighters David Grant and Danny Martinez when they squared off during the Ultimate Fighter premiere. Both men have young children they're fighting for and making it in the TUF house would mean the world to them.
The bout quickly turned controversial as Grant was stopped for illegal downward hands to the spine and an illegal knee to the head. He did go on to tap Martinez with an armbar late in the 2nd.
Although there wasn't much drama in the Ultimate Fighter premiere between the coaches, it appears all hell will break loose between Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate as the rest of the season plays out.
In an interview with RedEye Chicago recently, Rousey hinted at some series drama that will transpire between the two.
"We spent six weeks filming 'The Ultimate Fighter' that you guys haven't seen," Rousey said. "So there was a lot that went on that you guys don't know and that we can't talk about."
"I have an all Armenian team pretty much; I take very seriously offenses that are of those close to me, more than any offenses to myself. I don't think she's ever going to have an Armenian fan again."
We will have to stay tuned to find out exactly what went on between the two and how/if Miesha Tate hated on Armenians.
