Check out this Chicago IG, Ameena Payne. I first met Ameena through her artwork. She's a fantastic artistic whose uses a unique focus for all her art, her own body. Her images show strength, straightforwardness and optimism, just like Ameena. Check out her take on the city:
Why you'll never leave the city:
I was born in Uptown Chicago, and Chicago will forever hold a piece of my heart. I’ve enjoyed living in so many neighborhoods – from Bridgeport/Bronzeville to Pilsen to River North and most recently Lincoln Square; each neighborhood is endearing in its own way. My education brought me back to the city, and I’m currently finishing up my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at IIT.
Most amazing thing/place that you love to do in Chicago:
I absolutely love the Lincoln Square and Andersonville neighborhoods during the summer and fall. I’d have to say that I most enjoy the food and the ability to live a life full of culture and diversity. I have friends from all over the world living in Chicago. Consequently, exploring restaurants is always exciting! I’ve also seen some of my most memorable live music performances here at the House of Blues, Aragon, Congress, Kingston Mines, The Shrine and Underground Wonder Bar.
I own classic items that can be tweaked to work with vintage accessories (from the 20s,30s and 70s) I own (thanks to my Mom, Nana and Papa). I love the 1920s era and flapper girl look –the fringing, beading, and fabrics – yes, fur!
If not this city, than which and why?
I spent about two weeks in San Francisco this summer, and I’m sure I found my soul place. I have a strong affinity for nature and places that reflect that – the trees, mountains and ocean really make me come alive. I feel like I will end up living on the west coast at some point. However, growing up, I spent many summers spending a week or two in New York; I am completely bi-costal. I am looking forward to traveling more internationally and experiencing cities in Spain, France, China, and Singapore.
