18th Street Pilsen Open Studios showcases more than 80 artists

The 18th Street Pilsen Open Studios continues Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

It was started in 2003 by a group of local artists who live in, work in or have a strong historical connection to Pilsen.

In addition to mural walks, there are guided studio and van tours. See map.

Among the artists featured are Hector Duarte, Gerardo Villarreal, Roberto Valadez, Montserrat Alsina, Miro Antas, Eric "Roho" Garcia, and Grace Needlman.

"Pilsen is a mecca for artists," said Garcia who is part of a young group of artists called Expo Collective.

Montserrat Alsina, originally from Venezuela, has been in Pilsen more than 15 years and runs the Colibri studio and gallery.

"We need to keep united as artists no matter where we are from," she said.
