McCreery is the first Latino to win American Idol

Scott McCreery

Here's a fact you may not know about country crooner Scott McCreery?

The new American Idol is one-quarter Puerto Rican. He's the first Latino to win the show.

His grandmother is from the island commonwealth. His grandfather met his wife when he was in the Air Force in Puerto Rico. McCreery's father was born there.

I loved watching his interview below about his heritage with Latina magazine.

"I've got my Puerto Rican hair all curly and everything," McCreey said.

Just goes to show you can't stereotype all Latinos. We don't all sing salsa or play mariachis. Some of us even like country music.

Congratulations to McCreery.
