If you haven't heard about Radio Arte, you soon will.
Radio Arte, a community, bilingual and youth-centered radio station owned by the National Museum of Mexican Art, is joining forces with Vocalo.org, founded by Chicago Public Radio, for a year-long collaboration.
Radio Arte's entire radio programming will be rebroadcast on Vocalo.org's HD-2 channel full-time, seven days a week. This will allow Radio Arte to expand its radius from 14-miles around the Little Village neighborhood to Chicago and Northwest Indiana.
"We are really happy to create an additional resource for our community to get the message out there," said Silvia Rivera, general manager of Radio Arte, announced this week at a Latino media panel discussion I participated in at the National Museum of Mexican Art.
"This collaboration is another way that we fulfill our mission of
helping to bring multiple and diverse voices to the public airwaves,"
said Wendy Turner, general manager of Vocalo.org, in a statement.
Vocalo.org is a public radio
station based around user-submitted content gathered from their social networking Web site.
Also,
starting tonight Radio Arte (90.5 WRTE-FM) and Vocalo.org (89.5
WBEW-FM) hosts will join forces every Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. for a
joint show on Vocalo.org.
This is an innovative community radio
collaboration that will allow the voices of Latino youth in Chicago and
their stories to be heard by a larger audience.
