"U.S. deports Lou Dobbs."
This was a recent headline in the Onion newspaper. When I saw the print edition at a coffee shop this weekend I doubled over with laughter.
It's so brilliant that I wish I had written it myself.
The "Cover Story" joked that Lou Dobbs lived illegally in the United States under the name Luis Miguel Salvador Aguila Dominguez for the last 48 years.
They also concocted a storyline that Dobbs was actually born in the Mexican state of Puebla to parents of Colombian descent.
Now that would be truly ironic. Too bad it's just a joke. But you should read the full story for a good laugh. It's absolutely hysterical.
Now what is scary is the prospect of Dobbs running for political office.
He's apparently toying with that idea since quitting CNN.
There are rumors that he may run for Senate in New Jersey or that he would even consider a third party bid for president in 2012, according to a story in TV Guide.
That would be something to see Sarah "Going Rogue" Palin and Dobbs in a debate. Hopefully they would divide the wingnut vote.
Seriously, Dobbs doesn't stand a chance. Politicians who exploit the anti-immigrant agenda tend to lose big.
Just ask Tom Tancredo or Jim Oberweis.
