Hispanic Hero: Sonia Sotomayor is smart and can mambo too

It's Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

Why does it fall from the middle of one month to the other?

Well that' so we can fit in as many fiestas as possible. Seriously, though Sept. 15 marks the independence day of five Latin American countries - Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador and the month-long celebration reaches into October for Dia de La Raza on Oct. 12, a holiday that celebrates Hispanic pride.

During this month I'm going to continue with the occasional feature I'll call Hispanic heroes. My Hispanic hero today is someone you have all heard about - Sonia Sotomayor.

She's smart, strong and she has now taken her hard-won place on the U.S. Supreme Court. But I'm giving a shout out to Sotomayor today for another reason. She's showing us that she won't be boring and reclusive like many of the other justices. She likes to get out there on the dance floor. Continue reading to see the video.

The pictures and video from Washington Life Magazine show Sotomayor doing the
mambo with hunky Latino actor Esai Morales during a National Hispanic
Foundation for the Arts
gala.

She also was recently spotted out dancing and singing karaoke to
celebrate her swearing in at the Irish Channel Pub in Washington, D.C. and a viewer sent it to Fox News.

I love this woman. She's got brains and she knows how to have a good time too.

íQue viva Sonia Sotomayor!

  • After a year of dealing with Clarence on the bench, Sonia will be singing, "Love is a Battlefield." Viva Sotomayor!

  • It's cool to see she will also bring some rhythm to the Supreme Court. It's time for de-constipation!
