Latino cultural events in Chicago

Movies. Dance. Theater.

There are a few Latino cultural events happening this week that might interest you.

On Wednesday night, there's a free film in Piotrowski Park called "El Estudiante" or "The Student." It's set in Guanajuato, one of my favorite Mexican cities, and is about a 70-year-old man who surprises his family and decides to go to the university there. The film is sponsored by the Latino Cultural Center and starts at dark at 4247 W. 31st St.

There's also a flamenco show this weekend by the Ensemble Español at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie. The show is Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

If you like theater, there's a new play called "Boleros for the Disenchanted" directed by Henry Godinez. It's about a couple that moves from Puerto Rico to the United States. It's at the Goodman Theater and runs through July 26.
