Listen Limbaugh: Sonia Sotomayor is not a racist

The right-wing attacks against Sonia Sotomayor are out of control.

Newt Gingrich has called Sotomayor a "Latina woman racist."

Rush Limbaugh called her a "reverse racist." He said that about President Obama too.

Former Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo on CNN called one of the group's Sotomayor has been affiliated with, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the "Latino KKK."

And there's a New York Times story analyzing her links to another group called the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF.)

To imply that NCLR and PRLDEF are radical or racist Latino organizations is absurd. These groups have advocated for the civil rights of Latinos for decades. They are the Latino equivalent of the NAACP.

They have helped Latinos overcome institutional racism by doing everything from fighting for equal rights and education and against discrimination in the workplace.
For someone like Tancredo to dissect the name of the group - National
Council of La Raza - and wildly infer the name is racist shows his own
ignorance. Maybe if he would take the time to learn Spanish instead of
bashing Latinos he would get that the word is used as a term of
cultural pride. That's not racist.

The extreme right is getting really desperate.

They
can't attack her qualifications so they are attacking her ethnicity and
her character. They are reading things into her past statements in
pathetic attempts to discredit her.

Some out there in the blogosphere have even implied this Princeton and Yale grad is not so smart.

She graduated summa cum laude from Princeton and was an editor at the Yale Law Review. She's clearly incredibly smart.

Others have said she is too curt or brusque.

If she was a man, do you think they would criticize her for being too brusque?

That's just sexist.

Gingrich, Tancredo and Limbaugh need to look in the mirror. They are the ones acting like racists.
