On Writing is, hands down, my favorite book on writing. Equal parts instruction and pep talk, Stephen King does a beautiful job explaining his writing process, all the mistakes he's made, and how he got where he is. Most of all, he lets the reader know that all writers have that seed of doubt in head. Even Stephen King. Funny, self-deprecating, inspiring.
