ESPN recently posted an article detailing just how beneficial MMA training can often be when utilized in real life situations. Perhaps more importantly however, the article explains just how far MMA has come from over the past fifteen years by demonstrating that many current MMA fighters are both educated and good citizens (see Rashad Evans, Rich Franklin and Forrest Griffin).
MMA Changing its Image
For once, it is nice to see an expose that intelligently shows the emerging profile of MMA fighters; the backyard, bare-knuckle brawlers replaced by highly trained, educated athletes. While much of the mainstream media still likes to paint MMA as an underground counter-culture, the reality is that MMA is drawing more and more good citizens into its fighting ranks. Cheers to you ESPN for taking a little time to show us what MMA has become and, more importantly, where it is going.
