As the NFL lockout continues, NFL players are finding more and more interesting things to do to keep themselves occupied. While the Ravens' Tom Zbikowski's talents in the boxing ring have been well documented by the national media, we may have another potential boxing champion coming out of the NFL.
From the opinions of the boxing pundits, it sounds as if Ray Edwards may have a real chance to shake up the mundane heavyweight division. Given that he admits to only "seven or eight sparring sessions" as his competitive experience, I think I'll reserve judgment until he gets a few fights under his belt. Still, his size and athleticism would present some real problems for any heavyweight provided he receives the proper training and experience.
Either way, cheers to Mr. Edwards for doing something with his time while the NFLPA (sorry, I forgot that entity doesn't "exist" anymore) and the owners spend their time forgetting how fortunate they are. If he ever finds boxing too boring, maybe he can follow the Ravens' Arthur Jones into MMA?
