March Madness is in full swing but for Chicago, the Hoops Classic will keep the basketball buzz alive into April. The roster is full of mega-talent on both the West and South sides. State champ Simeon ballers Walker and Fells have both committed to play; but they have only begun to give us a glimpse into the level of ability the inaugural Chicago United Hoops Classic is going to uncover.
Some of the best players city-wide will be competing, including: Bruce Barron who is headed to Oregon, David Sobolewski and Mike Turner are Northwestern bound, Frank Kaminsky and George Marshall are both off to Wisconsin. The list goes on with Greg Travis, Jerome Brown headed to UIC and Macari Brooks and Jamee Crockett headed to DePaul. The coaches of the game are some of the city's finest. Robert Smith from Simeon and Bobby Locke of Brooks will be leading the South. William "Wolf" Nelson of Farragut and Tim Anderson of Crane will be leading the West.
The final rosters will be announced on April 5, 2011 the day after the NCAA championship game. With countless local players who have gone onto the NBA out of Chicago's basketball mecca (including MVP canidate Derrick Rose), come support the stars of tomorrow as we silence the violence in our city.
