Were you running in the 2009 Chicago Marathon? Were you one of those guys with no shirt on? I bundled up and stepped over to 18th Street and Blue Island when the 4:15 pack was coming through and have to admit your willingness to train for months and brave the early winter temps inspired this desk jockey to consider jumping in next year. Super trooper Amy Guth made it to mile 14, WITH A CANE, before calling it a day.
If any of you took her advice on finish line photos, we'd love to see them. Toss a link in the comments or email them to us.
Here are some parting tips, for your next challenge or next year. Let us know how it went!
- How to: Put together the ultimate marathon playlist
It can't all be AC/DC. Remember, pace is important in your music choices too.
- How to: Navigate a water stop
Definitely don't toss the empty cup in the middle of the road, there are thousands of others behind you and the cleaners aren't going to jump in the middle.
- How to: Recycle your running shoes
Don't just throw throw them in the trash.
The fine folks at RedEye are keeping also keeping tabs so let us all know how it went. And what you might suggest for the newbies looking toward next year. Me included.
