Bears devour Steelers, ChicagoNow eats crow

OK, I'm an idiot. But I have company. A lot of company.

17 of 26 ChicagoNow bloggers who sent their predictions in took Pittsburgh to beat the Bears. Feel free to publically flog us, but can you blame us ... ah, no excuses.

We were wrong and, at least in my case, caved to the hysteria surrounding Jay Cutler's dismal first game as a Bear and Brian Urlacher's dismal last game as a Bear this season.

Thanks to all this angst, there was quite a bit to discuss around ChicagoNow following the victory...

On Bears Game Day: Mike Burzawa's post-game recap has links to Lovie Smith and Jay Cutler's post-game news conferences and he cheekily gives his game ball to a Bear who didn't even play (no, it wasn't Brian Urlacher.)

On Jay Cutler Superstar: Matt Lo Cascio breaks down Jay Cutler's day series by series.

On The Professor: Brad Palmer throws around a lot of credit in his post-game analysis but writes that Robbie Gould's success where Jeff Reed failed twice was the key.

On Chicago Bears In Haiku: Great post-game haiku by Andrew Braverman but kind of disappointed he didn't point out the significance of the Bears winning with 17 points.

On Top Ten Chicago Sports: Top Ten Reasons Why the Bears Beat the Steelers

On Garrard McMcClendon Live: Garrard kind of jumps the gun and says the Bears are Super Bowl bound. But who am I to say? I had the Bears dropping to 0-2.

And if you want to relive Sunday's game you can see some Twitpics we found and also read the three game threads from ChicagoNow bloggers at Da' Bears Blog, A League Of Her Own and, of course, Bears Game Day.

  • Face it, had it not been for Reed missing two field goals (which he rarely does) and a couple of ill-time fouls on the Steelers, the Bears would have lost. Now...all that matters in the end is the "W"; however, the Bears were not very impressive and should work on bettering their game too rather than spend a ton of time celebrating a mediocre performance.

  • In reply to Kory:

Completely agree. I still don't know how they won. That said, they put themselves in a position to win, and as the great Jim Valvano pointed out that's all that matters.

Sorry...just a dumb blonde too much in a hurry! I was at the game with my girlfriends, and all I can say is, it's great to get caught up in the moment! So much for all the naysayers after last week...pretty typical really. It's a long season, every team is adjusting. Cutler is gonna settle in, Knox is MVP, and Tillman? what more can be said!

  • In reply to Kory:

Oh God. Here we go again. And if Gould misses his FG the Bears would have lost, If Knox drops his TD the Bears would have lost, if Kellen Davis falls over the Bears would have lost yad yada yada. If my Auntie had balls she'd by my uncle ...
