This past Sunday at Huntington Bank Pavilion I had the opportunity to see The Movement, J Boog and Iration who are all on tour with Slightly Stoopid. This line up made for a solid evening of reggae. It was a loud concert with a decent size crowd who seemed to know the words to every song that was played. There was singing, dancing and even people hula- hooping.
This was my first time at a concert featuring reggae music and I have to say it was a lot of fun, it was definitely a change of pace from other concerts I’ve been to because it was kind of calm and relaxing in a way. Each group and a different sound and it was a treat for everyone in the audience!
Iration’s presence was felt as soon as the first chord played. Iration is an alternative/reggae group of musicians formed in Isla Vista, CA. A deep-rooted reggae influence is fused with elements of rock and pop to create smooth original sounds. The group is made up of members Joseph Dickens (Drums), Cayson Peterson (Keyboard/Synth), Micah Pueschel (Guitar/Lead Vocals), Adam Taylor (Bass), and Micah Brown (Guitar/Vocals). All of the members met while growing up in Hawaii but formed the band after reconnecting in Santa Barbara, CA – the exception being Micah Brown who officially joined the group in 2014.
Their sound was massive, seeming almost turned up a notch or two from the opening acts. Several songs got the crowd involved either singing along or clapping hands to the beat (there was a lot of clapping). The band has a great chemistry on stage and definitely do not hold back showing how much fun they’re having.
