Love: The Lion is an upcoming silent graphic novel illustrated by Federico Bertolucci and written by Frédéric Brrémaud and published by Magnetic Press. This is the third novel in the series, preceded by Love: The Tiger and Love: The Fox.
Each volume in the Love series centers around the days in the life of an animal, very similar to a nature documentary, particularly the recent films in the Disneynature series. However, as these are silent graphic novels, the artwork alone tells the narrative without the assistance of words. The Lion follows a lone male lion and his struggle living without a pride.
The artwork is stunning. Bertolucci’s style captures the hot, dry plains of the savannah and the deep, wet tones of the jungle with beautiful color palettes and soft shading. Every panel is filled dynamically with movement and emotion, swiftly illustrating the story.
At roughly 80 pages it will be an interesting “read” for any age.

A young lion wanders the Serengeti in search of a pride to call his own. But being alone, he is watched with cautious eyes by those families he encounters along the way, including a coalition of rival males in search of their own pride to conquer.
So the nomad searches patiently, waiting for the opportunity to claim his territory and find a new family. But loneliness can breed ferocity…
The third volume in the lavishly illustrated, award-winning series of wildlife graphic novels, each depicting a day in the life of different wild animals, told through the dramatic lens of Disney-esque storytelling, like a nature documentary in illustration.
