On a brisk Friday evening CMT’s Next Women of Country Tour rolled into The Venue in Hammond, IN. CMT’s Next Women in Country tour provides an outlet for up and coming female country artists to showcase their musical talents and expose them to fans. This year’s tour includes headliner Jennifer Nettles one of country music’s most talented female artists.
The evening began with both newcomers Lindsay Ell and Tara Thompson who were able to showcase a few songs each teasing fans with their musical talents. With strong vocals, an energetic stage presence and song writing abilities fans will be seeing both of these country cuties more and more.
Opening for Nettles was crazy talented song writer and CMT’s Next Women in Country’s alum Brandy Clark. Clark was laid back and low key but very engaging with the crowd. Clark was warm and inviting and her energy shined through her guitar, sweet vocals, and clever song lyrics.
Taking complete ownership of the stage headliner Jennifer Nettles dancing shadow appeared to the cheers of an eager crowd. Nettles set included Playing with Fire,” from her new solo disc, Sugarland hit “Stay” and Falling from her first solo album “That Girl”. Nettles has a wide range of vocal talent and this was showcased during her encore performing “Bohemian Rhapsody” a “Queen” cover. Nettles and her band knock it out of the park and a shout out to Jennifer’s bass player who rocked those “Rhapsody” vocals! Nettles was high energy, fun, flirty and kept the crowd wrapped in a musical cloud throughout the entire show.
