Friday evening we attended the performance of Whitesnake with opener Foghat. Onesti Entertainment lead by Ron Onesti has been bringing some top billing to the Arcada Theater in St. Charles now for 10 years; they have become one of the number one music venues in the Midwest. This show was billed as Arcada under the Stars and took place along the Fox River at Vasa Park in South Elgin.
Shortly after the gates opened fans braving the heat, faced a brief downpour of rain. This however did not seem to dampen the spirts of attendees as they continued to file into the park.
A few tempers flared as we between the two acts, could be due to the heat, or something else but security was quickly to handle this situation.
Foghat, the English rock band formed in 1971, they have achieved 8 gold records and 1 platinum and one double platinum, all this despite several lineup changed. Their performance was met with good reviews, many fans were eager to purchase T-shirts, CDs and other wares available.
Whitesnake formed in England in 1978 by David Coverdale when he left his previous band, Deep Purple. In May 2015 the band released The Purple Album, which contains re-recorded Coverdale songs from his days with Deep Purple. They did perform songs from that album as well as some of their well-known classic hits.
By the time Whitesnake took the stage the sun was down and due to the rains and proximity to the river the bugs came out. This seemed to be a minor irritation for most but the Coverdale did mention the heat and humidity. He also asked in jest about the number of calories for each of the bugs he had already swallowed. Beside these minor irritations the performance was well received, few fans near the front of the stage stayed in there seats as they rocked into the night.
All things considered, rain, bugs, wet muddy areas, heat; we will give this performance a solid four guitar review.
