Rockin' For The Troops with Gary Sinise at Cantigny Park

Saturday we attended the 10th Anniversary of Rockin’ for the Troops concert event. It was held at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, IL.

This annual event is a fundraiser for Operation Support Our Troops – America, founded in 2003 by Naperville Mom Deborah Rickert. This event has raised more than $3 million dollars and has contributed to military and family support programs for OSOT-America and numerous other organizations.

Cantigny Park, the host location was opened to the public in 1958 after the death of Robert R. McCormick. It offers the following things to enjoy. The McCormick residence and First Division museum, multiple gardens, visitor center, education center, walking trails, military vehicles and a golf course.

During the opening ceremony, the Cantigny VFW presented a check from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation to Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in the amount of $14,500.  A Gold Star mom sang patriotic songs as four parachute team members dropped in, followed by a presentation of colors as Metal of Honor recipient Allen Lynch, Governor Bruce Rauner, and others looked on.

This event featured performances by Chicago Blues All-Stars, Maggie Speaks, The Voices and headliner Gary Sinise and the Lt Dan Band.

Finally as the sun descended and the darkness overtook the park it was time for the featured act to perform. The energy of anticipation was great as the video introduced played on the big screens, we were treated to a vast array of movie and TV show clips featuring Gary Sinise.

Without introductions, the twelve member band took to the stage and jumped right into their musical set. The played a mix of current songs from 70’s through current hits. Throughout the show Gary Sinise made introductions of the band members. As the show ended, fans were screaming for more, as if the nearly two hour set wasn't enough. So the band returned to play a few more songs.

Here are a few other people of note that were in attendance. Lt. Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti, on-air radio personality Dan Proft, Amy Jacobson, Danny Lake. The cast and crew from TV show Under Covers, Senator Mark Kirk and Jim Cornelison National Anthem singer from the Chicago Blackhawks and others.

I give this a five guitar rating, inspire of the heat and rain the fans endured and the show went on. Great job everyone!
