Windy City Wine Festival

unknownThis week’s Windy City Wine Festival (WCWF) may be a tad windier than usual thanks to all the hurricane activity in the Caribbean but rest assured, the show will go on!  This year’s festival highlights over 300 different wines and runs Friday September 8 from 5pm-10pm and Saturday September 9 from 3pm-8pm at Buckingham Fountain in downtown Chicago.

The WCWF itself offers a wide range of wines including whites, reds, and rosés from all over the world including California, Australia, Italy, France, and Spain. There will also be plenty of entertainment and food, of course, which always makes for a longer and far more enjoyable wine tasting.  Look for pizza, tacos, grilled cheese, cupcakes, and Bundt cakes among the various offerings.

In order to fully appreciate and enjoy the festival, consider taking advantage of The Kimpton Gray Hotel’s Windy City Wine Festival “Sip and Stay” Package which is priced at $309/night (excluding taxes & fees) on Friday September 8 and $349/night (excluding taxes & fees) on Saturday September 9 with promo code “WCWF”.  The package will include the following:

  • Two tickets to the Windy City Wine Festival
  • Two Hand Selected Glasses of Wine by Lauren Parton of Vol. 39 (the hotel’s fabulous bar which will be featured in my next post)
  • Overnight lodging at The Kimpton Gray Hotel

The Kimpton Gray Hotel is located just 6 blocks west of Buckingham Fountain at 122 W. Monroe making it perfectly situated for both the wine festival and many other weekend activities. Incidentally, the “Gray” in its name comes from the preserved Georgia Gray marble found in the hotel.

I’ve been to the WCWF several times in the past and it’s a fun, casual venue to explore wine and a perfect way to usher in Chicago’s beautiful early fall.  The iconic Buckingham Fountain location and gorgeous lake and skyline views are the ideal backdrop to some great wine.   wcwf2013-439-of-1041-jpg
