What does Pokemon Go have to do with the weather?

Want a better distraction than Pokemon Go?  Here for your delight and pleasure is this perfect summer day.

What does Pokemon Go have to do with the weather?

Pokemon Go is a mobile virtual reality game you play outside.  It's fun, players may say, if they bother to look up from their phones.  This is the new reality. Everything they need is on their phones--breaking news  and weather, too.

Weather is real reality--it's rain and wind, and blizzards in January, heat and humidity of July. Weather is sweat and thunder, floods and power outages. Weather connects us; it affects all our lives.

And weather reminds us that we are part of the natural world, and we share this world with countless  living creatures.

Months from now, will people  have a new distraction?  Will they remember this summer day?

  • The weather affects all of us. The very reason we must prevent fossil fuels from turning it into a baleful force.

Thanks for reading, AW! Yes, I agree. Our very real future is at stake. I am working on more posts about this, too. But these are scary and uncertain times--no wonder virtual reality is popular, right now. At least kids are going outside...

  • In reply to Weather Girl:

Similar to what they said about Harry Potter, "at least children are reading," but the progression is downward.

Thanks for reading, Jack. I completely agree. I think it is also grown-up kids who are nostalgic for Pokemon days.

VR is scary scenario--playing games while the real world tears itself apart.

  • Thanks. I had my first glimpse of Pokémon Go today where I work. I wish it were Pokémon Gone. I far prefer the weather -- any day!

  • In reply to Margaret H. Laing:

Thanks for reading. Speaking of summer delights, it's time for the Hawks convention!
