Sony announced last night at a meeting that could be seen online. The PS4 which was the big announcement last night will be on sale to the masses out there during what time? The holidays!
With all of us tech geeks out there anxiously waiting for the big reveal of the device all Sony provided were details as to what the machine will feature, never actually showcasing the actual device.
This will be the device that will replace the PS3, there is no if's, and's or but's about it.
Although they mentioned that the PS4 would be available during this holiday season. There was not details as to if this will be a worldwide release, or would just a certain number of countries get this first and then the rest of the world would get it. Stay tuned on that front.
The price was not mentioned but I would imagine that it would be in the range of the PS3 when it was first launched.
What does the PS4 have inside? Let's get into the nitty gritty my friends, First it features AMD x86 based 8 core CPU and an enhanced GPU. It will feature Blu-Ray, DVD and HDMI output. They did confirm that the PS4 will pack 8GB of DDR5 RAM. Unfortunately the PS4 will not be backwards compatible with older games. However not all is lost my friends. The new thing is that if you want to play PS3 and older generation games on the PS4 and you can stream them online. You can use this feature on the PS4 and the PS Vita. They also did include tablets and smartphone which everyone out there practically has already.
The way that you can use your smartphone and tablet is by downloading the app called "Playstation App" that will let your iPhone, iPad and Android phone or tablet become a second screen.
Since the Xbox has the Kinect, Sony has to have their version which is called the Playstaion 4 Eye. It will be a 1200x800 camera that would track your movements and recognize your voice to play games. It was also mentioned that it could do facial recognition in order for you to log on to your PS4.
One thing that they did unveil was the controller which is called the Dualshock 4 controller and features a touch pad in the middle of the controller and a light bar which will let the camera track movement. They also did mention that the Playstation Move would work along side the PS4 but they didn't show it off yet.
In my opinion I think that if you have a PS3 right now, it is time to upgrade when the PS4 comes out. From the sounds of what the PS4 will have inside it sounds like it could beat up the PS3 in speed alone. All we are left with is to see it and feel it first hand. So stay tuned my fellow readers.
