A documentary has done its job when it inspires the viewer to take action. Typeface, a look at a printmaking shop in Two Rivers, WI, is a documentary that has not only begun to revitalize a tradition that is endangered, but has inspired similar films. The art of letterpress and printmaking is currently considered a craft for the designer, but there is also an underground community of writers still producing high-quality broadsides. Kartemquin Film's Typeface not only gets to the heart of this traditional technique, but focuses on the importance to keep these small shops alive. This Spring the documentary will be shown locally, but will also be making premiers in Ireland, Hawaii, Greece, and around the country.

The next local screenings of Typeface can be found here, but it will be shown in DeKalb, Evanston, Gevena, and Champaign this Spring.
