Torn Pages Opening Event

It seems fitting that the opening night of the first Torn Pages event would be so close to Valentine's Day. The concept of curator Josh Lucas, the show effectively married two creative worlds, art and literature. The result was an exciting event that began to build a bridge across the two Chicago scenes. What was fascinating was the various ways the pairs interpreted and manifested what was on the surface a simple assignment. The assignment was to create a page or section of an original children's book. You had a series of drawings accompanying a one page story, or in-text illustrations, or three incredible painting illuminating another piece of text. Each exhibit was unique, but all met the challenge and excelled. On Saturday night the newly opened OhNo!Doom Gallery was packed for fours hours straight with both writers and artists marveling at how each pieces turned out. Everyone was pleased, interacting, and slightly swaying to the DJ provided beats. The exhibit runs through March 2nd, and the rumor is that Lucas is already plotting the next Torn Pages show.
