Busy Weekend in Lit

It is a very busy weekend for literature in Chicago and it all kicks off tonight with the second annual Windy City Story Slam All City Championships. Held at the Double Door, their will stories from their finalists Alex Bonner, Fernando Hernandez, Nicolette Kittinger, Maggie Ritchie, and Alexis Thomas. They will also have special guests joining them that include 2009 National Book Award finalist Bonnie Jo Campbell, John Patrick Hemingway, John Schultz, and Ben Evans. The night will be capped off by a musical performance from the exciting red-headed duo White Mystery. The show starts at 8pm and tickets are $7.

Here is a roundup of the rest of the Weekend:

Friday: Kevin Sampsell reads tonight at the Book Cellar at 7pm.

Saturday and Sunday: Open Book's Open Boxes Book Sale (213 W. Institute Pl. Suite #207) $1 for children's books and softcovers/$2 for hardcovers OR fill an Open Books tote bag for just $25! 10,000+ books on sale.

Saturday and Sunday: Abby Sher partners with Erasing the Distance, Flourish Studios and Second City Alums for two-part event February 26th and 27th at Flourish Studios at 3020 N. Lincoln Avenue.

Saturday: Artifice Issue #1 Release Party @ Loft 3A at 7:00pm (Free beer, Readings by Issue 1 Authors and A staged reading of "Police Procedural" by Andrew Farkas!)

Sunday: Criminal Class Review Release Party @ Weegee's Lounge 7:30pm (Lorn McKay, Brian Murphy, Max Glaessner, Marla Seidell, Julia Borcherts, and Bill "the Butcher" Hillman).
