Yes that picture is actually Kane Hodder choking me at one of his book signings. For those of you who aren't familiar with Kane Hodder he is the actor and stuntman who played the hockey mask wearing serial killer in many of the Friday the 13th movies. He was a great guy to meet in person and he was hamming it up with people who wanted a picture with him (I photoshopped the mask on and put us at Crystal Lake for effect) The problem is I actually made the mistake of making fun of his shirt (I really didn't mean to) and I to this day believe he took a special joy in applying just a little more pressure on his choke hold in my case! Truthfully it was kind of cool to be choked by Jason but I'm just kind of weird that way.
Ahh...So today is Friday the 13th and a full moon no less. I don't know if the full moon makes the date any more or less scary but it does make it somewhat cooler which we all know is much more important.
Being a guy into history and lore I am always asked if I am superstitious and my answer is YES! I think all of us are superstitious in a way. Every time we say "Bless You" after someone sneezes, while we may not realize it, started as a superstition because people believed that when you sneezed your heart momentarily stopped and during that split second your soul could also escape so saying, "God Bless You" was a way of welcoming you back to life.
Sounds silly but have you ever purposely not said, "God Bless You" after someone sneezes? It is actually hard! You also feel relieved when someone else says it because it releases you from the burden! (Tell me it's not true)
I do absolutely believe that you never tempt fate! That is probably my biggest superstition. I know that you NEVER, EVER, EVER say things like, "Gee we have extra money in the account this month" or "Isn't it great how well the car is running lately". Or one of my favorites that just happened to a good friend of mine when we were at Navy Pier. As we were enjoying a beautiful summer day at the Pier, my wife was worried about all of the Seagulls flying above because Seagull poop sucks! Our friend Steph said, "I Don't worry about it. I've never been pooped on" OH NO SHE DIDN"T ! and Yes I have the photo to prove it
I am not kidding! Within a half hour of her making that statement! So who's the superstitious one now! Anyway, I don't know if there is anything to the Friday The 13th thing or whether or not having a full moon fall on the same day makes it any more or less scary or whether you suffer from Friggatriskaidekaphobia. I am just saying that I probably would reschedule any major surgery you may have had planned for the day!
