SI Hot Clicks: the other way Sports Illustrated sells sex (gallery)

SI Hot Clicks: the other way Sports Illustrated sells sex (gallery)
The Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue isn’t the only time of the year that SI sells sex. The publishing company does it twice every week day on their “Extra Mustard” page, a rip off of the now defunct ESPN Page 2, with their SI Hot Clicks feature managed by Jimmy Traina. It’s a content amalgam or link round-up, in which very little is written but lots of outbound linking is done. It’s not the only one, but it’s the biggest one; although Yardbarker and The Big Lead round-up aren’t far behind. As you might expect, this is REALLY the place you want to have your posts linked if you’re a sports blogger, so naturally the people in charge receive hundreds of submissions a day and never return your emails. SI Hot Clicks is different though, because they have the power of a major established brand behind them, and they can leak their own stuff first. Like they did this week with the Katherine Webb SI Swimsuit issue and the Kate Upton body paint pics. SI Hot Clicks runs twice a day and features a “Lovely Lady of the Day.” They also must have some kind of corporate deal with Jimmy Kimmel because they post his videos incessantly...

SI Swimsuit Issue: keeping Sports Illustrated relevant (Photo Gallery)

SI Swimsuit Issue: keeping Sports Illustrated relevant (Photo Gallery)
When’s the last time you picked up a copy of Inside Sports (1979-1998) or Sport (1946-2000) magazine? The Sporting News ceased print operations this year after 122 years of publishing. It’s only the SI swimsuit issue that saves the print version of Sports Illustrated from extinction. ESPN the Magazine aside, I could sum up the sports magazine business with a quote from Wham’s Careless Whisper: “there’s no comfort in the truth, pain is the whole you’ll find.” The SI swimsuit issue comes out Thursday, check out the gallery below for preview pics. I run a media blog and I don’t even have a category for magazines. I'd be better off having a category for telegraph messages. As is often the case in life, it’s a very different story when boobs are involved. The SI swimsuit issue generates advertising that, in 2005 amounted to $35 million. Today it accounts for 7% of Sports Illustrated’s annual revenue. Generating 7% from just one issue is pretty stellar when you consider the competition they face in lad mags like Maxim and ESPN’s Body Issue; which like the SI swimsuit issue, is just oh so close to having to be placed in plastic/behind the counter when displayed on magazine racks. But this issue is more of a juggernaut than most of us know...

Brent Musburger apology unnecessary; Katherine Webb agrees: Video

Brent Musburger apology unnecessary; Katherine Webb agrees: Video
Since the Alabama Crimson Tide obliterated Notre Dame from minute one (and once again the game fell well short of the ESPN hype) all the talk has been of Katherine Webb, Miss Alabama 2012 and girlfriend of Tide QB A.J. McCarron. Her, along with the hot mom of McCarron, Dee Dee Sonders have been the talk of Twitter and the internet at large. And it made legendary sportscaster Brent Musburger into a national punchline. And wrongfully so. I posted the video after the game and pointed out the web making fun of Musburger, but I don’t think it was right. I don't agree with his detractors. Musburger didn’t say anything offensive. And he certainly didn’t say anything any different from what us guys were thinking. Webb thinks so too...

Brent Musburger, most of the web ogle A.J. McCarron's girlfriend (video)
The actual college football game was a total joke- the Alabama Crimson Tide totally crushed Notre Dame right from the start. The game was over at kickoff. Serves ESPN right for over-promoting the hell out of the game for the past month and change. So what captivated the viewers since the football was anything but interesting? Katherine Webb, Miss Alabama 2012 and girlfriend of Tide QB A.J. McCarron. And ironically an Auburn graduate. Her, along with the hot mom of McCarron, Dee Dee Sonders got a TON of ESPN air time tonight, and with that they almost broke Twitter and the internet. And turned legendary sportscaster Brent Musburger into a national punchline...
