Fox Sports 1 hosting big event at DePaul

DePaul and the Big East Conference will have their own midnight madness event on Friday night. Fox Sports 1 televises the Big East Tip-Off Party on Friday, Oct. 25. Fox Sports 1 will do a similar event on the campuses of all the schools in the "league" on Friday night.

Fox Sports 1 has a television deal with the "conference." I only say that in airquotes because in college hoops there really aren't "leagues" or "conferences" anymore. Instead we have groupings and affiliations based on mutual television contract advantages.

The Fox Sports 1 event will take place in Lincoln Park as the Blue Demons kick off the 2013-14 season.

The evening starts at 6 p.m. under the Fullerton ‘L’ tracks next to McGrath-Phillips Arena.

Some of Chicago’s top food trucks will provide free food. That should attract a fair amount of sportswriters because you know the old joke:

Q: How do you get rid of sportswriters?

A: Stop putting out free food. And/or tell them about another team that gives out more/better free food.

The DePaul Captains’ Council, Blue Crew and the Student Government Association will host a block party on Belden Ave.

Food trucks scheduled for the pre-show event include Giordano’s Pizza, Haute N’ Ready, The Fat Shallot, Sweet Ride and The Salsa Truck. There will also be a Red Eye Photo Booth set up for students and fans to instantly post pics on Instagram, Facebook and TwitPic.

We'll see if Big East hoops will help give a ratings boost to Fox Sports 1. FS1 got off to a rough start in that department.
