The University of Illinois and the Chicago White Sox will soon share a broadcast partnership. WSCR Chicago is home to radio broadcasts of all White Sox games; WSCR 670 AM will also carry Illini basketball starting in 2013-14 and football in 2014. (STEAKS AND CAKES!) The logo of WSCR 670 The Score is blue and orange for a reason. All CBS owned radio stations adopt the colors of their local NFL team for the station logos. Obviously, WSCR got it’s colors from the Chicago Bears. Papa Bear Halas brought the colors with him to the Bears from the Illini.
White Sox Illini Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 29, when Fighting Illini fans can purchase discounted tickets and receive an opportunity to parade around the warning track of U.S. Cellular Field before the game, along with Illini-themed activities throughout the day. The White Sox face the Cleveland Indians (Illini and Indians coincidence?).
The agreement also allows for discounted tickets for Illini fans to White Sox games on July 20 vs. the Atlanta Braves, Aug. 24 vs. the Texas Rangers and Sept. 27 vs. the Kansas City Royals. Additional joint-marketing efforts between the Fighting Illini and White Sox will be announced in the coming weeks.
The White Sox and Cubs battle for the hearts of Chicago sports fans just like the Illini and Northwestern do. The Cubs and the Northwestern Wildcats have a partnership of their own. They are very closely intertwined as NU Athletic Director Jim Phillips lives on the same street and attends the same church as Cubs Owner Tom Ricketts.
