WMVP’s Sarah Spain is most likely leaving the Chicago sports talk radio station for a new gig with Fox Sports 1. A source close to Spain claimed that this deal is in the works. We don't have official word yet, but all signs point that way. The ESPN 1000 on-air personality is potentially bolting the talk radio station for a greater, expanded role with the new television network. The higher ups at Fox Sports 1 are hoping that this new network will be able to complete with the World Wide Leader: ESPN.
Sarah Spain is one of many sports personalities being scouted for Fox Sports 1. They’ve already made a marquee hire in Charissa Thompson. And they’re looking to add a considerable amount of staff between now and network launch August 17th. I really don't see anything special in Spain's work. I do not find her to be exceedingly talented. Then again, I'm not FS1. Maybe they see something I don't.
Spain tweeted yesterday that she was flying to Los Angeles; presumably to finalize/further discuss the deal with Fox Sports. Sarah Spain has previous experience living in Los Angeles working for Fox Sports. She used to produce the network’s “The Final Score” highlights show.
According to The Big Lead:
another name being tangentially linked to the show is ESPN Chicago’s Sarah Spain. It’s unclear what Spain’s role on the show would be if she left ESPN for Fox, since she lives in Chicago and it will tape in New York, but a source said Fox has presented broader opportunities at the network for her.
Spain didn’t respond to a direct message on twitter.
Attempts to reach Spain were unsuccessful.
Sarah Spain came to ESPN 1000 after a very brief stint with WGN television. She also wrote for Chicago Now (hey, we’re all about full disclosure in this article), The Love of Sports, Mouthpiece Sports and The Sports Bank (No self-promotion in this piece. Nope. None whatsoever. Not at all)
Spain is the ultimate die-hard of die-hards for both the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. She hails from the very elite suburb of Lake Forest, and was quite the accomplished athlete at Cornell University; where she majored in English. So the "I'm just an average Jane" bit doesn't quite work for her.
Sarah first came to national media attention when she auctioned herself off on Ebay as a potential Super Bowl date in early 2007; when the Bears were set to take on the Indianapolis Colts. She wore a very revealing homemade Bears cheerleader outfit in the picture for the EBay listing.
Yes, this story was reported in a snarky kind of way. Which is something Sarah would appreciate. This posting also features an over-the-top amount of self-promotion and cross-promotion; something you often find in the Twitter feed of Sarah Spain.
